My name is Samantha Adams Becker, and I’ve lived at the intersection of storytelling, education, and the digital revolution for 20 years.
I started in print journalism as the managing editor of a statewide magazine and helped build an online presence before realizing my passion was truly digital. So I got to work at a startup (now RR Donelly) with the biggest publishers in the world (including HarperCollins and Harlequin) and facilitated the digitization of books at the start of the ebook boom with Apple and Barnes & Noble, as well as working with newspapers like The New York Times and LA Times.
I joined the New Media Consortium in 2011 – a membership organization for universities, colleges, schools, and libraries. There, I ran and co-authored the longest-standing publication documenting technology uptake across learning sectors – The Horizon Report. When I began at the NMC, the series had a readership of ~100,000 globally. After helping to lead a revamp and massive expansion of the series through new reports, partnerships, and social media engagement, the series reached ~4 million readers.
But the most fulfilling part of that work was collaborating with our vibrant community of institutional leaders, educators, and others directly responsible for making decisions and creating learning experiences for students worldwide. I fell in love with this community of changemakers.
So after launching my creative and consultancy in 2017, six months after giving birth to my first of two daughters, I began working with an array of clients in the education space — from universities and community colleges to learning and digital equity-focused nonprofits. Here, I work with a team of creatives — writers, graphic designers, strategists, storytellers — to help organizations better articulate their voice and vision.
